"More than 50 years ago, the state of Israel shocked the world when it seized the remaining Palestinian territories of the West Bank, East Jerusalem, Gaza Strip, as well as the Syrian Golan Heights and the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula, in a matter of six days.

In a war with Egypt, Jordan and Syria, known as the 1967 War, or the June War, Israel delivered what came to be known as the "Naksa", meaning setback or defeat, to the armies of the neighbouring Arab countries, and to the Palestinians who lost all what remained of their homeland." The Naksa: How Israel occupied the whole of Palestine in 1967

Our Relationship to the World

Today atrocities are going on all over the world. The US media reports some but very few compared to the terrible events. It is crucial that we do whatever we can to help make this world a better place for all people in any way we can.

Some say we should not listen to the negative news because it lowers our energy and is depressing, however, if the atrocities are ignored, they will just get worse without any opposition. If we only enjoy our quiet life and feel good about our own world without at least honoring the victims we hear about, where is love and unity in our world?

We are all in this harsh world together even if we happen to live in a place safe from bombs and military action. If we are one of the fortunate, we can feel compassion for the oppressed and send positive energy to them by prayers or healing thoughts.

When we focus only on our small circle of family and friends, we are ignoring the other people in the world who may need our help, even thousands of miles away, through prayers. There really is no time or space between us, we are all in this dimension, born here whether we like it or not, in this body. We are here to learn how to be, and become, a thoughtful, loving, human being. If we stay wrapped up in our own little corner of life, where is our spiritual growth for eternity? We may not be able to travel the world to help others in need or even in our own communities, but we can send caring thoughts, which may be just an instant away from helping someone out of a terrible situation.

The only thing we have to do is open our eyes and ears to the world of people around us, far and near. This may take some internet research to find 'alternate' news articles informing us of situations in various countries such as Yemen, Syria and Palestine. When we feel compassion for the people, we can extend our love and concern in a prayerful or meditative state or just healing thoughts. We are not even a second away from them in spiritual time, so it always touches to whom it is sent.
